No matter where we go, the American flag is proudly flying alongside the French flag, and oftentimes England’s flag, and Canada’s. It is so humbling to see the extent of gratitude toward the liberating entities here…even after 80 years! The remnants of WWII are plentiful everywhere we look, and it is evident that the people of France don’t want to forget the price that was paid, and for that, WE are grateful. The soldiers who served in WWII and did not make it home are someone’s son, daughter, sister, brother, friend, or spouse. So in that alone, a great price was paid on the home front. I wish all who lost a loved one on foreign shores could visit Normandy. The local folks here have ‘adopted’ the burial sites of the fallen, so that even in death they will have someone tending to their memory and celebrating their life. So very touching in so many ways. And my words fall short in describing how we all are feeling as we walk on the sites of the battles fought here.
