There is a church here that survived the severe bombing by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge. Three times each day the bells toll, and they always start the tolls with the first two measures of the Star Spangled Banner. On a continent so far away, it is astounding, heartwarming, and humbling that these people, who are a generation removed, still choose to remember and honor the liberating forces of WWII. This is so poignant to me, but it’s hard to express in words why. Then I came across this post on Facebook last night…
The American patriotism is so much greater here, and more evident than it is at home. Still, there is hope for the USA. Through steadfast prayer and consistent attention to those we vote into office, ‘we the people’ can endeavor to remember, and pass those memories (the history of our country) on to our children and grandchildren.
‘If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.’
2 Chronicles 7:14-16
