A Record

When all was said and done, we walked 7.5 miles today! Dean was with me for 4.5 of them πŸ‘πŸ‘. After our last day of exploring (Herodium, the War of 1947 Museum, the Jewish Museum, and the battlefield where David killed Goliath) we returned to the hotel. And then two new friends (Pat and Dave) and I set off to wander inside the Damascus Gate. So fun that was!

Needless to say, it’s still hot. It does cool down nicely after sundown though, so our mornings have been comfortable😊.

Herodium is another lavish castletopia built by Herod the Great on the…you guessed it…top of a mountain!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ What IS it with this guy and mansions on hilltops? πŸ˜‚ In the end, he destroyed much of it to make the place his final resting grounds. Michael spoke of the many cities built by Herod the Great, the magnificent shipping port of Caesarea, and also his lavish lifestyle and great wealth, but in the end, the only thing he is really remembered for is the fact that he is the killer of babies. What a pitiful legacy that is his πŸ˜”.

Herodium…or what is left/reconstructed of it. πŸ‘‡

View from the top!😱 πŸ‘†

And for the trek down, we took the AQUEDUCT route!

Amazing to see. With extraordinary views from the top! We could see Bethlehem in the distance, but because it is under Palestinian rule, Jewish people are not allowed in. These signs are at every entrance…
