As I said, we were in an entirely different part of Warsaw for this tour, so we wandered around the area while we waited for the group to arrive. I like to be at least 30 minutes early for things like this, mainly to allow for getting lost. We didn’t get lost, fortunately, but we did find a nice place to sit down, warm up, and use the loo. We found more evidence of Poland‘s sad history as we wandered yet another ‘square’…

From what I understand, Treblinka was a family camp, and it was used primarily for propaganda purposes…for people coming in (foreign diplomats, Red Cross) so as to ascertain how the German captives were being treated. While the Nazi regime needed to continue putting on a happy front, the prisoners were fed (meagerly), nd kept in family units. Still, in the end, they were all killed as well.
There is evidence of so many heroes of the Holocaust in and around Warsaw and Krakow. I am guessing by the name that this doctor was Jewish, but if not, we can be certain he has been declared as ‘Righteous Among the Nation’ with Vad Yashem in Israel.😔
