Snow Day

I woke to an unexpected and unanticipated snowy morning in Telluride. The snow was falling pretty heavily, so I decided to make my way off the mountain and through the mountain pass before the skiers decided to head home. I had a slow, but easy drive down, up, and then down again to Ridgeway, where I was ready for a break, coffee, and a bite to eat.

Passing the homes, their interiors lit up be cozy, welcoming lights, made me miss being home during these beautiful, snowy days. I remember the school ‘snow days’ of yesteryear, and how much fun the kids would have, not only knowing they didn’t have to go to school, but bundling up to sled down the driveway, make snowmen, and build snow forts. When they had either 1. Exhausted themselves, or 2. Got cold, they’d tumble into the basement and shed their wet snow gear at the door before hurrying up to the warmth of the fire and the hot cocoa that awaited. If they were persistent, we’d make cookies, but they were typically tired and happy to settle in for a movie (Lion King, if the girls had their way) with freshly popped popcorn.

Winter days, like what I have today, will alway take me back to those memories when the kiddos were still little, and such a joy. They still are a great joy, but that relationship changes with growth and maturity. I hope the memories of those days are equally as wonderful for them. 🤗💕

All grown up now, but I can still see the childhood versions in my heart. 💜
