We saw so many today, but they are well cared for. Our first stop, while outside it was still cool, was at the top of the Golan mountain range in the ancient city of Antioch Hippos, which has just recently been discovered and unearthed. It was/is also called Susita and this is where it is speculated Jesus cast the demons out of the crazy man and into a herd of pigs, which subsequently ran off a cliff and drowned. The Jewish historians trace their reasoning down to the most minuscule of details and the rabbit trail is fascinating to follow! Way too lengthy for the blog in my tired state πππ. But the excavated site was amAZING!

Ancient mosaics still line the floors! This city would have been in existence during Jesus’ ministryπ±.

The city was devastated by an earthquake thousands of years ago and never rebuilt.

During the Yom Kippur War, Syrian forces built a bunker here that is now the gift shop. The Syrian forces were defeated and this mountain top treasure is once again in Israel’s domain. π
