Because of the terrible atrocities that took place in the Auschwitz concentration camp over several years, I chose not to take any photos. But as we were leaving, I saw such a beautiful example of redemption for the Jewish nation, and so perfectly placed…at the exit of the death camp.

A huge limb of this tree had broken away. The branches were destined to die, but someone carefully hoisted the tree up and reattached it to the ‘vine’, and what was meant to die, is thriving. It brought to mind the verse in 2 Corinthians…
‘We are hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, yet not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.’
Seeing this upon leaving Auschwitz brought a sense of peace after a very sad day.
In Birkenau, a similar peace ensued upon seeing the beautiful memorial left at the end of the rail tracks leading into the death camp. A beautiful memorial that all will forever be remembered.
