I’ve always learned what I consider the three most important phrases in the language of the places I intend to visit. They are hello, please, and thank you. I think I’ve learned the Polish pronunciation well, as every time I use hello or thank you, I am blessed with a litany of phrases that I cannot understand 😂. And then I have to shrug and say, ‘I’m sorry, but that’s ALL I know.’ 😂😂😂 I must be looking the part (of a local) though, as while I was waiting at the Metro station, a Polish woman approached and launched into an animated tirade (I think her bus might not have shown up 🤔) (yes, I am left guessing!), or she maybe had an argument with her spouse…? Anywho, I just listened, nodded, smiled, nodded some more. But when she stopped and waited expectantly for a reply, I said, ‘I’m from America…I don’t speak Polish.’ Her eyes grew round and she burst out laughing, and I couldn’t help but join in. Patting me on the arm, she smiled again and said goodbye. Now THAT I knew! 😂😂😂 ‘Zenia 😆’!
