What a delightful surprise greeted us when we hopped into our Bolt for the drive back to the hometel after the culmination of the food store last night! I gave my usual greeting, in Polish, yes, and received a kind reply in heavily accent in English. As we all got settled, this time me, Plus One, AND a Plus Two (ππI collect them), our kind young driver introduced himself. He is from Turkey, but has been in Poland for the past two years, as he said, ‘In Turkey things not good just now.’ he went on to explain that there is rampant inflation, and he moved to Poland to work so he could send money home to his family and his girlfriend. He must’ve been all of 20 to 23 years of age π. So kind, funny, engaging and sweet. It was evident after hearing him speak so fondly of home that he was incredibly home sick. But he said he was able to visit home easily, as it is only a two hour flight. That’s about for me, a flight to Minneapolis. But not right now.π
And in case I haven’t said before, Bolt is similar to Uber, were you type in a destination and you immediately get a price, which allows you to confirm a pick up. Then you double click on the iphone and Apple Pay charges your credit card the bill. Then you simply wait for your driver (sometimes just a matter of minutes!) to pick you up. After the drive is completed, you have the option to leave a tip. Taxis here are NOT the way to go, because they WAY overcharge, and you never know how much you’re going to be charged until you get to where you’re going. Plus Two was telling us how he was charged four times more than what a Bolt ride would’ve cost to get from the train station to his hotel, which was within a mile of our hometel.π± So of course, when the food tour ended, we invited him to share our ride home since we were going his way anyway. We were dropped off in front of his hotel, and then enjoyed a leisurely stroll back up to our apartment. It was a good way to walk off some of the food we had just eaten, which was all amazing! I will break this up into two separate posts so I don’t overwhelm my little phone. But our group consisted of our guide, Kuba (shortened Polish version for Jakub), Tatiana from Vienna, William from Florida (aka Plus Two), and Dean and I π. It made for such a small, cohesive, engaging, and interactive evening ☺️. I felt like we were a group of college kids out for a night on the town! And of course, being in Poland, we started with vodka in the street, which Kuba said was slightly illegal πππ. I can laugh about it now because I woke up and I wasn’t in the clinker.πππππππππ
