We finally stopped and asked somebody where the elevator was. We had to step aside to let them pass as they were coming down. Fortunately, it was at the third level. So we had a place to step aside AT! The gal was surprised we had missed the elevator! But then she added, “You’re almost to the top, so just keep going!”
And we did! 😂😂😂
The stairway narrowed down to a 2-foot width, but at last we emerged into daylight, much to the surprise of a young lady standing at the top!
“Did you climb the steps?” she asked, her mouth agape.
Thinking she was impressed with our endeavor, we nodded and said, “Yep!”
To which she replied, “You’re supposed to ride the elevator… it puts you out on the other side so you can start the walk around.”
Glancing past her, there was indeed no room to step past her without some effort 😂. But we did. However, beyond HER were two gentlemen, so we waited until they had seen all they wanted to see, and then pressed ourselves against the ledge in the doorway to allow them to pass. We then had the entire top of the belfrey pretty much all to ourselves!😂😂😆😆
