Well! Things get pretty lively on the streets on Saturday nights! We stopped to pick up some freshly popped corn for the drive home. I hopped out to snap a few pictures while we waited 😊.
We spoke to a local pastor last night who told us the Uganda government is launching a campaign to encourage the people to use dried dung for fuel versus wood. The country is suffering a severe deforestation crisis since Ugandans use wood for pretty much everything…heat, cooking, building, fencing, burning trash, and more I am probably not even aware of. Sure enough, I noticed the massive piles of wood all around us as we continued the drive to the ‘hometel’. Sadly, there is a persistent haze in the air because of this, and we see many with upper respiratory issues. I’ve yet to see the color of the beautiful Uganda sky. 😢
