Old and New

I learned something I did not know today! Actually… I’ve learned a lot of things I did not know. Turns out I don’t know that much, or at least as much as I thought I did.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚  But I do know that I love everything about Poland so far. We took an Old Town tour today on the back of a little cart, and our driver was a sweet, young lady by the name of Anna.

As she was trying to navigate the little cart in and out very busy, traffic laden streets (after all, it’s Saturday, and EVERYONE is out and about!πŸ˜‚), she pointed out the fact that there are no street lights in and around the old city. She said that if they were to add street lights, they would lose their UNESCO World Heritage Site status. She also mentioned that the Nazis did not bomb Krakow like they did Warsaw, because they wanted to save Krakow, in all its charm, for themselves, intending all along to win that nasty war.  I remember being told a similar story in Bath, England. The Germans intended to use Bath as a vacation spot after the war, so most of the city was left unscathed during all of World War II. It’s so sad to realize the horrors these countries have seen, us being far removed on the other side of the world. But in the end, Germany and its evil regime was defeated. Poland suffered a double-whammy though, as they were under communist rule for several years after.

Some photos of the ancient…

And our view from our little buggy πŸ˜†…

That’s us in the mirror! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

All in all a fun way to spend an hour before our underground tour of Old Krakow 😊.
