Heathrow

I used to enjoy watching a YouTube show titled, ‘Heathrow’, and it was about London’s busiest airport. They said Heathrow is a city within itself, and it’s true. They have their own police department, their own fire department, and their own ambulance service. They say a plane lands in Heathrow every 45 seconds, and then halfway through the day, they change the landing runways to the takeoff at runways to give the people living in the neighborhood a break from the persistent noise. We are very near Heathrow in our hometel, and I think this morning we are on the takeoff end of the runways. Since about 5 AM. I was starting to hear the planes leaving in London.πŸ˜‚ I expect tomorrow we will have a quieter morning as the runway will switch once again, as they alternate them each day.

Our flat is just about 500 m from the Uber water taxi terminal (boat stop😊), so yesterday we decided to get a ‘hop on hop off’ pass. It was probably the most relaxing and enjoyable way I’ve traveled on public transportation in my entire life! The views were incredible, and after about 60 minutes of enjoying the lovely scenery, we arrived at the Tower Bridge station.  We spent the rest of the day tooling around London, getting on and off the boat when we wanted to change locations. Some random pictures from throughout the day…

It is so wonderful being back in England. Our days are unstructured, and we make up a plan each morning when we wake up. We will head back into the city again today, and then plan on taking a train ride to an outlying area tomorrow, as it supposed to be rainy in London.London has catchy little phrases to help people remember important things. It has always brought to mind ‘Schoolhouse Rock’ πŸ˜‚πŸ’•.  For my children reading this, don’t forget to remind me to tell you about it!πŸ€“ One ‘catchy phrase’ that has been consistent for all of my travels here, and is played repeatedly on public transportation…’See it, say it, sorted.’  That is intended to keep people traveling on the bus/train/underground safe from potential, violent aggressors. Yesterday I saw this cute sign on our ferry… It reminded me of the ditty above…

Obviously, a reminder to be mindful of what germs may linger on your hands.πŸ˜‚

And this, which instantly stirred memories of the old Charles Dickens novel…

‘Aaaaallllllmmms for the poor…’ 😌

And this…

It just sounds so much more charming than ‘garbage’ πŸ˜‚.

What an extraordinary day!  We eventually meandered back down to the ‘Embankment Station’ to catch an Uber boat back to our flat around 5 o’clock. The ticket checker announced as we were boarding…’Last boat heading to Wandsworth for the day!’ That was exactly where we needed to go. The Lord has impeccable timing!πŸ™πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
