Touk works with us in triage as a translator. His kind, compassionate spirit puts all others at ease. Yesterday Cindy and I sat him between the two of us (nurses), and he was stellarπππ. His brow was gleaming with perspiration, unusual for those who live here, so I know we were asking much from him…

I didn’t want to be in the picture, but he was insistentπ.

Touk lost his mother as a young child to illness. His father, overwhelmed with sorrow, died shortly after. Touk was taken in and raised in the Foursquare Children of Promise home. The character and integrity of the adults and leadership at the FCOP homes is so powerfully evident in their ‘fruit’. Believers serving the lost, the defenseless, and the vulnerable in a selfless, loving and faithful manner. Pastor Sou planted these homes. The more I hear about this man, the more I wish I could have known him! But then I’d have been in Cambodia, and my ‘sheen’ would have been dripping!
Touk is consistently watching and waiting to translate our next question, and ALWAYS with a smile on his bright face. ππ A funny perhaps not for the squeamish…Touk was saying something I couldn’t quite catch yesterday morning. He got my ‘deer in the headlights’ look. Inching closer, he said it again, and I shook my head. He leaned in closer and said it a little more slowly. I finally looked at Cindy and said, ‘Can you understand, because I can’t.’ She had been there the two days before with Touk, so she heard it perfectly well…vaginal discharge. My eyes must’ve reflected my surprise, because Touk burst out laughing. I joined in as well, as did Cindy. Our patients probably wondered what was so funny, especially when the giggles continued for several minutes. π
While we were working throughout the day, our patient sat in chairs less than 4 feet apart, and 6 feet from those lining up in the que. I was thinking to myself, and about to say to Cindy, ‘it is a good thing the HIPPA enforcers are not here to see this!’ Before even one word left my mouth, she turned to me and said the very same thing! Again, eruptive laughter. We are SO breaking every ruleππ!
I ventured back to the ‘squatty potty’ yesterday, and saw this beautiful chain of hearts, leading up to the heavens… I snapped a photo to share.

A love like this is real here in Cambodia. πππ
